From the Little League rulebook:

“The Little League manager and coach must be leaders. All must recognize that they hold a position of trust and responsibility in a program that deals with a sensitive and formative period of a child’s development…. The manager and coach must have understanding, patience and the capacity to work with children”. … Our program of Challenger Baseball surely requires all of these traits, perhaps even more so that the “typical” LL team. Here are the basic requirements needed to coach or volunteer with Challenger:

The duties required of our managers include:

  • Leadership and responsibility
  • Knowledge of the game
  • Understanding of the special needs player
  • Coordination and selection of supporting coaches
  • Communication with other coaches/teams

The duties required of our coaches include:

  • Support for the team manager
  • Understanding of the special needs player
  • Willingness to coach as directed on the field at games or practice

The duties of our parent rep include:

  • Communication between parents, coaches and the league
  • Organizing fundraisers and team gatherings
  • Scheduling team “treats” for post games

The duties of a parent volunteer include:

  • Assisting the coaching staff or parent rep as directed on and off the field
  • Providing a positive and supportive attitude for players and coaches.

ANYONE WHO WORKS WITH CHALLENGER AT ANY LEVEL MUST SUBMIT TO SCREENING AND POSSIBLE BACKGROUND CHECKS PER LITTLE LEAGUE REGULATIONS. VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS MUST BE FILLED OUT BY ALL.
